The journey to Uzbekistan was one of the most interesting stops on my world tour. After parting ways with my friend Anis in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, I managed to reach Tashkent, albeit a bit late. I spent 3 days at the home of a new friend I met through Couchsurfing, and during this time, I had the opportunity to explore Tashkent. In this post, I will share with you life in Uzbekistan, the challenges of earning money, and the economic situation.
First Days in Tashkent: Exploring a New City
When I arrived in Tashkent, I immediately noticed how vibrant and dynamic a city the capital of Uzbekistan is. The friend I met through Couchsurfing showed me around Tashkent, and during this process, I had the chance to discover the city's historical and cultural riches. Tashkent, one of the largest cities in Uzbekistan, stands out with its wide streets, green spaces, and modern structures.
Life and Economy in Uzbekistan: Is It Easy to Earn Money?
During my time in Uzbekistan, I closely observed the living conditions and economic situation in the country. We tried to earn money by playing the ukulele on the street, and in the process, I discovered the interest the Uzbek people have in music. The currency, the SOM, has a lower value compared to neighboring countries, which shows that the economy is facing some challenges. However, the hospitality of the people and their struggle for life play a huge role in overcoming these difficulties.
Plov is Eaten with Hands: Tasting Uzbek Cuisine
Coming to Uzbekistan, I couldn't leave without tasting the country's famous dish, plov (pilaf). During my stay in Tashkent, I tried plov, one of the most special dishes of Uzbek cuisine. This delicious meal, which is traditionally eaten with the hands, is a part of Uzbek culture and takes its place on tables at every meal in the country. Plov is usually prepared with rice, meat, and vegetables, and is enriched with spices. Having this experience in Uzbekistan allowed me to get to know the country's cultural riches more closely.

These days I spent in Uzbekistan allowed me to better understand the cultural and economic structure of the country. The people I met in Tashkent, the places I visited, and the food I tasted have taken their place among the best memories of my world tour.
