Hello friends, in this post, I will share a new chapter of my adventure in Uzbekistan with you. In this leg of my world tour, I had the opportunity to explore the cities of Bukhara and Samarkand. I have always been fascinated by Uzbekistan’s historical and cultural riches, but an incident I experienced in Bukhara made this country even more special. While exploring Bukhara with the friend who hosted us through Couchsurfing, we stumbled upon a free palace, and the story of the tourists we met there was truly incredible. Afterward, I set off for Samarkand, and I will tell you about one of my days in this enchanting city.
The Incredible Discovery in Bukhara: A Free Palace
While we were staying in Bukhara, one of the places we visited was a palace located in the center of the city that offered free entry. While exploring this palace, we met 5 tourists staying inside. Among these tourists were one American, one Mexican, and three Australians. They had all been staying in this palace for free for 3 days. Yes, you heard that right: while there were hotels right next to the palace ranging from $50 to $100 a night, these tourists were staying in a palace without paying a single cent. I once again witnessed the hospitality of Bukhara and the generosity of the Uzbek people. I truly congratulate our friends in Bukhara for this incredible gesture.
Heading to Samarkand: A Day in an Enchanting City
Following this unforgettable experience in Bukhara, I set off for Samarkand, one of Uzbekistan's most famous cities. Samarkand is a city located on the Silk Road and is famous for its historical structures. When I arrived in the city, I started walking through the streets of Samarkand with the first rays of the sun. My first stop was Registan Square, which captivated me with its magnificent architecture. This square is surrounded by three grand madrasas and is truly a place worth seeing.
For the rest of the day, I continued to explore other historical and cultural riches of Samarkand. As I walked through the city, the hospitality and warmth of the local people surprised me every time. I went to a local restaurant for lunch and tasted the pilaf, one of the most famous dishes of Uzbek cuisine. The Samarkand pilaf was truly excellent in terms of both flavor and presentation. After lunch, I visited historical sites such as the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the Shah-i-Zinda Complex.
Samarkand Through the Eyes of a Traveler
Samarkand will remain in my memory not only for its historical and cultural richness but also for the warmth and hospitality of its people. These days I spent in Uzbekistan will remain one of the most unforgettable memories of my world tour. That incredible palace experience I had in Bukhara and the enchanting atmosphere of Samarkand can be inspiring for anyone who wants to explore this country.
