After the difficulties I experienced in Ürümqi, the capital of East Turkistan, I decided to get some fresh air and explore the city. My days in Ürümqi allowed me to observe the daily life of the Uyghur Turks more closely, in addition to the challenges I faced as a traveler. Together with a Hungarian friend who can speak broken Chinese, we visited the Grand Bazaar in Ürümqi. Travel in Ürümqi: The Grand Bazaar and Uyghur Culture
After the difficult time I had in Ürümqi, I wanted to relax a bit and explore the city. Together with my Hungarian traveler friend, we visited the Grand Bazaar, one of the most famous places in the city. This large market stands out as a place that showcases the cultural wealth and traditions of the Uyghur Turks. While wandering the streets of the market, I had the opportunity to see their daily lives and cultural heritage more closely.
Uyghur Turks: What Do They Eat, How Do They Live?
While visiting the Grand Bazaar, the richness of Uyghur cuisine impressed me quite a bit. It is possible to find various Uyghur dishes and delicacies in every corner of the market. Uyghur pilaf, kebabs, and dishes seasoned with various spices reflect the culinary culture of this region in the best way. The food of the Uyghur Turks is like a mixture of Central Asian and Chinese cuisine, yet it offers a unique flavor and aroma.
Outside the market, I also had the opportunity to observe the daily lives of the Uyghur Turks. The Uyghur Turks are a community that is deeply attached to their cultural and religious beliefs, yet forced to live under the oppression of the Chinese government. In this region, the lives of the Uyghur Turks are spent under constant surveillance and control. However, despite all these difficulties, they strive to protect their cultural heritage and traditions.
The Challenges of the Uyghur Turks: The Struggle for Survival
During my time in Ürümqi, I had the opportunity to better understand the difficulties the Uyghur Turks face. Under the pressure of the Chinese government, these people are putting up a great fight to continue their daily lives. The religious and cultural freedoms of the Uyghur Turks are restricted, but despite these difficulties, they do their best to protect their identity.
