Crossing from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan by Ship: An Adventure from Baku to Aktau
During my time in Azerbaijan, I was looking forward to crossing to the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. However, I soon realized that this crossing would not be easy. In this post, I will share the difficulties I faced while trying to earn money as a street performer in Baku, my experiences at the Port of Alat, and how I finally managed to make this crossing by finding a sponsor.
Street Art in Baku and the Challenges
After staying in Baku for a while, I picked up my ukulele and hit the streets to raise the $70 needed to cross to Kazakhstan. However, I soon learned that there is no such thing as street performing in Azerbaijan. When the police see street performers, they intervene immediately, and this can go as far as having your money confiscated. I tried earning money at night, but there were very few people around in areas where the police weren't present, so I couldn't collect enough money.
The Port of Alat and Fruitless Efforts
I went to the Port of Alat to cross to Aktau, Kazakhstan, and tried to explain the situation by talking to the officials. Unfortunately, the $70 requirement was mandatory, and it was impossible for me to board the ship without that money. While I was desperately looking for a way out, I unexpectedly found a sponsor.
A Sponsor and the Triumph of Courage
Eventually, I met someone in Baku named Miri. Miri said that he didn't have the courage to travel, but he did have the money. I told him that I didn't have the money, but my courage was at its peak. Thanks to Miri’s help, I was able to secure the necessary funds and make my crossing to Kazakhstan. I am grateful to Miri for this help, and this experience once again showed me how important the people you meet on the road can be.
Conclusion
Crossing from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan by ship was both a challenging and unforgettable experience. The obstacles you face and the solutions you find on the road form the most valuable memories of any trip. This blog post can serve as both a guide and a source of motivation for travelers. If you gather your courage, the world will open all its doors to you.
