Located a few bus rides away from Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, this is a natural wonder that most people don’t know about, and even those who do rarely visit. However, the view that awaits you when you set foot in the Mud Volcanoes is truly fascinating. The mud pools formed by the volcanoes offer a quite extraordinary experience. While many visitors might not have jumped in, I summoned my courage and took the plunge, and I definitely recommend it! However, getting out of the mud and cleaning up is another adventure in itself...
How to Reach the Mud Volcanoes?
Getting to the Mud Volcanoes is quite easy, but it requires some time and patience. To reach the Alat Ferry Terminal from Baku, you can take buses 211, 206, and 195, respectively. Get off on the highway in front of the terminal, turn your back to the port, and walk 3 kilometers toward the mountains, and you will find the Mud Volcanoes. At the end of this walk, you will witness how surprising nature can be.
The Joy and Challenges of Jumping In
When you arrive at the Mud Volcanoes, you might just want to watch at first. However, with a little courage and a spirit of adventure, I definitely recommend jumping into the volcano. This unique experience will strengthen your connection with nature and allow you to collect unforgettable memories. But there is one thing you should be aware of: it is not that easy to get out of the mud and clean up, so be prepared!
