The Korean Soldier Who Hasn't Forgotten Atatürk: A November 10th Memory
Being away from Turkey on November 10th can be difficult, especially for someone who wants to commemorate Atatürk. Since I spent this special day in South Korea and could not go to Anıtkabir, I managed to commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk under our flag at the War Memorial in the capital, Seoul. I left a flower at the bust located there and remembered the great leader of the Turkish nation with respect.
During this time, I met a retired Korean soldier who has not forgotten the Turks who have been coming here every November 10th for 30 years. He greeted me with great joy when he saw me and said that this was the first time he had seen a Turk here at 9:05 AM on the morning of November 10th. We commemorated Atatürk together, and then, as I had promised him, I played the İzmir March on my ukulele.
