First Day in Uzbekistan: The Value of the Dollar and the Experience of Earning Money on the Street
Hello, I am Oğuzhan Tıraş. I have arrived at the Uzbekistan leg of my world tour, and my first day here was truly extraordinary. In this article, I will share how 1 dollar is worth its weight in gold in Uzbekistan and how I multiplied the money I brought from Kazakhstan. I exchanged the remaining 6,000 KZT (approximately 18 Dollars) I had, and I will tell you what you can do with the 150,000 SOM I received and how you can feel rich. You will also discover what I did with the money I earned by playing music on the street.
The Value of the Dollar in Uzbekistan: Feeling Rich
In Uzbekistan, 1 Dollar is equivalent to approximately 8,000 SOM. This means that when I exchanged the 6,000 KZT (18 Dollars) I brought from Kazakhstan, I received exactly 150,000 SOM. This amount is quite a lot of money in Uzbekistan, and believe me, you just can't spend it all! There are many things you can comfortably live with using this money, and you really feel rich.
Earning Money by Playing Music on the Street
I decided to play music on the streets in Uzbekistan, and this attempt was quite successful. The 100,000 SOM I collected through street performance was more than enough to cover my living expenses in Uzbekistan! I converted the extra money I collected back into Dollars and put it in my pocket. The cost of living in Uzbekistan is quite low; for example, water is 2,000 SOM, and a subway ticket is only 1,200 SOM. With this amount, you can live very comfortably for 10 days.
Conclusion
This first day I spent in Uzbekistan became one of the most interesting and enjoyable memories of my world tour. Seeing how valuable the dollar is and earning money by playing music on the street was a great start to exploring this country.
